Thank you for an outstanding year!

This year has been a whirlwind for us here at BOKS.  We jumped from 744 enrolled schools to an 1,100+ schools.  We are proud and awed by how many incredible volunteers have stepped up to promote health and wellness in their school communities, making a real, tangible difference in the lives of children.

We know that BOKS can truly impact a child’s physical and mental health.  The recent research on BOKS published in the New York Times in March showed that children participating in BOKS 3 times per week showed an improvement in BMI, an indicator for many health issues, and children that participated 2 -3 times per week showed positive improvements to their general happiness, including deeper social connections and greater satisfaction with life.

More and more, we are finding that our program is not only growing in new schools, but reaching the classrooms of the schools already participating.  Our Bursts program of in-class DPA activities is spreading like wildfire in the schools where BOKS is already impacting change.  Many provinces are updating their requirements around DPA, and we are really proud to be able to support our trainers and teachers with easy to use resources.

It is amazing to me to know that we can help create change in the world at large, but nothing brings it home as much as actually bringing it home – being able to volunteer at my children’s school and get active with them.  My 7 year old can’t wait to start our session in January.

As 2018 comes to a close, we want to say thank you to the many volunteers who give up their lunch hours, or show up early to school, or stay after a long day, to provide a safe, fun place for children to be active.  Just know we are always here, working on new ideas to help make the program even better for you.  And yes, we test everything with our kids!

Happy Holiday from the BOKS team!
